Book Description

Veteran Jacob Denisov lives alone in his small, darkened home, sleepless, starving, blaming himself for the horrors of the past and waiting for the moment when he gathers enough courage to kill himself. When neighbor Madeline Hewitson drives her car through the front wall of his house, she breaks his house—and Jacob's life—wide open. She isn't called "Mad Maddie" for nothing. The survivor of a college dorm massacre, a woman accused of her lover's murder, she is haunted by ghosts and tormented by a killer only she can see. Dealing with construction and forced to see the world outside his home, Jacob watches Maddie, recognizes a kindred spirit and wonders—is this truly madness, or has someone caught her in a twisted labyrinth of revenge and compassion, guilt and redemption, murder and madness?

Readers become writers, and Christina Dodd has always been a reader. She reads everything, but because she loves humor, she likes romance best.

A woman wants things like world peace, a clean house, and a deep and meaningful relationship based on mutual understanding and love. A man wants things like a Craftsman router with attachments, undisputed control of the TV remote, and a red Corvette which will miraculously make his bald spot disappear. So when Christina's first daughter was born, she told her husband she was going to quit work and write a book. It was a good time to start a new career, because how much trouble could one little infant be?

Ha! It took ten years, two children and three completed manuscripts before her first novel, CANDLE IN THE WINDOW, was published. In the twenty-three years since, her novels have been translated into 25 languages, won Romance Writers of America's prestigious Golden Heart and RITA Awards and been called the year's best by Library Journal. Christina Dodd herself has been a clue in the Los Angeles Times crossword puzzle (11/18/05, # 13 Down: Romance Novelist named Christina — her mother was very impressed.) With more than 15 million of her books in print, Publishers Weekly praises her style that 'showcases Dodd's easy, addictive charm and steamy storytelling.'

Christina Dodd is married to a man with all his hair and no Corvette, but many Craftsman tools.

My Review

Because I'm Watching is the third book in the Virtue Falls series by author Christina Dodd. This is the first book of Christina's that I have read. Because I'm Watching can be read as a stand-alone novel.

Because I'm Watching is a suspense filled novel that kept me fascinated and enthralled until the end. The main story revolves around Jacob and Maddie who live across the street from one another in a small town in Washington state. Both are suffering from PTSD. Their worlds are shattered when Maddie plows into Jacob's house with her SUV. I enjoyed how their relationship developed and they looked out for one another. Two broken souls who find one another. Beautiful.

I realized early on the Maddie's PTSD was getting help from an outside source but did not realize the extent of it.  There is also a side story involving the newly appointed Sheriff of Virtue Falls Kateri Kwinault. She is facing stresses from within her department as an election approaches. I enjoyed reading about Kateri's story as well.

Great story.  I had a hard time putting it down. Highly recommend Christina Dodd's Because I'm Watching.
